Doda::An agitated mob of sloganeering teachers gathered  to protest for their various demands including streamlining of salaries of SSA teachers, implementation of transfer policy and regularization policy.

Ahead of new academic session, Jammu and Kashmir Rehbar-e-Taleem (ReT) teachers’ forum on Wednesday held a protest in Doda and also  locked down schools for their demands which are not fulfilled by the government.

The protest brought Town center to standstill and also halted traffic in the area.

"MHRD has clubbed various schemes like SSA, RMSA, RUSA and reduced the funds which are effecting the salaries of SSA ( Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan) teachers of J&K, one of our demands is to delink the SSA teacher’s salary so that they will get monthly salaries rather than getting salaries once or twice a year like beggars”, said Sajad Malik, District President of the forum.

Mr Malik added despite court rulings there has been no implementation of transfer policy for ReT teachers. The department of education is hell-bent to harass the community as in that bid feels no shame or fear to mull over the court orders.

The aggrieved teachers also threatened  to lock down schools and go on indefinite strike in case government fails to meet their demands in one week i. e. before 1st of May otherwise *May Day* would be celebrated as black day and the schools tops will be adorned with black flags. “If they(government) fail to address our demands, we will lock down all the schools in J&k,” they said.

Later, protesting teachers marched towards DC Office Doda and held a sit in program in the premises of the Commissioner.

The protesters highlighted various demands like release of pending salary, transfer policy for ReT teachers, disposing of all pending files of ReT teachers for regularization and delinking of salary from Central source of funding.

They said more than 41000 teachers working under SSA scheme were without salaries from four months and hence facing various hardships. “Government is forcing us to come on roads. Our salaries are being released after four to six months and we have to take loans from banks to run our expenses. Teachers are called nation builders but here we are being humiliated,” , ReT teachers highlighted.

Sajjad Malik, DP  of the ReT Teachers Forum, said that the Government is making castles in air and not at all serious about solving their problems, the atrocities of people are unending . “We warn Government of dire consequences if the salary is not delinked and   paid from State budget. We are the employees of State Government not of Central Government and our salary should come on monthly basis,” he said, adding,

The protesting ReT teachers warned to launch an indefinite strike if their demand on salary is not conceded by the Government.

Others who spoke on the occasion are Ashiq Jaral sr Vc President, Naresh Megwan ZP Assar, Irshad Sheikh, Dr. Amit kumar, Riaz Ahmed, Riaz Ahmed ZP Doda, Rashpal Singh, Saif Din, Nasir Qayoom ZP Bhaderwah, Majid Malik ZP Bhalessa, Neha Sharma, Suresh Thakur Vc President etc. The whole program was hosted by Mushtaq Dar ZP Ghat.
