Doda Aligs pay tributes to Sir Syed Ahmed Khan,

Doda::To commemorate and pay tributes to Sir Syed Ahmed Khan, the founder of Aligarh Muslim University, an impressive function was held at Doda today. The programme was organised by AMU Old Boys Association Doda under the chairmanship of Nasir Suharwardy. 

All the Aligarians from District Doda participated in this function which was held to remember the contributions of Sir Syed Ahmed Khan in the field of education and social service.

Syed Ahmad bin Syed Muhammad Muttaqi usually remembered as Sir Syed, an Indian Muslim pragmatist, Islamic reformist and philosopher was born into a family with strong economic background on  17 October 1817. In 1859 and 1863 respectively Syed established Gulshan School at Muradabad and Victoria School at Ghazipur. In 1864 he created Scientific Society for Muslims. In 1875 this great educationist founded the famous Muhammaden Anglo-Oriental College which in 1920 was upgraded and named as Aligarh Muslim University. Today AMU is one of the biggest universities in the world with around thirty thousand students on its roll. The unique character of this university is that it's alumni are spread throughout the world and the terms 'Aligs' or 'Aligarians' are used for them. 

The Bicentenary Celebrations started with a welcome address by Dr Jamsheed Ahmad who has initiated the tradition of celebrating this day at Doda. Later on speakers including Adv Mustang Ahmed, Tanvir Ahmed Wani, Dr J I Tramboo, Syed Asim Hashmi, Adv Farooq Ahmed Khan,  Saleem Adil, Mubashir Adil and others threw light on the various facets of Aligarh Movement and stressed upon the need to get united under a banner. They pledged that the association will work wholeheartedly to carry forward the mission of Sir Syed Ahmed Khan. Other Aligs who attended this alumni meet include Ghulam Hassan Patigaroo, Faheem Farooq, Jaffer Hussain, Zia-ul-Haq Batt, Prof Bashir Ahmed and Irfan Ahmed. 

The programme started with AMU Tarana and ended with the traditional SS Dinner. 

District Information Officer Mr Imran Naik and District Cultural officer Sheikh Slah-ud-Din were present on the occasion.  Besides them reporters and journalists Atif Lone and Abid Pampori too attended the function.
