Markets abuzz ahead of Eid-ul-Azha across chenab region 

Eid shopping gaining momentum

Doda, : Markets across Jammau and Kashmir State particularly in erstwhile Chenab region presents festive look ahead of Eid-ul-Azha celebrations. With the less than 48 hours before Eid ul Azha, the people can be seen thronging shopping malls and cattle markets. The Eid shopping has finally gained momentum here at almost all the major markets and bazaars of erstwhile Chenab region including Doda, Kishtwar, Bhaderwah, Thathri, Gandoh and Ramban areas whereas people are seen rushing to buy dresses, household items and sacrificial animals. 

Women are busy in buying clothes, footwear, cosmetics, sweaters, coats, henna, bangles and other items while men are visiting makeshift cattle markets to buy sacrificial animals for their Eid ul Azha sacrifices. 

Big crowds of girls were witnessed on thursday evening on clothes and cosmetic shops in various areas of city. Shopkeepers have decorated their shops with colourful lights to attract customers. The shopping frenzy is expected to reach its peak during the next few days. 

“Eid is a special occasion for the children. I want to fulfill all their wishes this Eid,” Rajid Wani, a shopper said. Gift shops, also witnessed extraordinary rush as youngsters were choosing gifts and greeting cards for their loved ones as the ban on the pre-paid mobile service has left them with few options.

A shopkeeper located at Doda’s oldest market Nehru Chowk Kassan Shenali said that a great number of shoppers were thronging markets and that he was having a good business during these Eid days. 

Shahid Mailk, a readymade garment store said that the people are visiting market place in huge numbers and making purchase for the Eid-ul-Azha. He said that due to the overwhelming response, the markets remain open till late night.
