Govt High School,Khara  building in shambles, Students hold protest

Doda,JUL 04--Students blocked the Bhalessa Thatri road near  Khara area  today in protest against the “failure” of the education department  to construct school building of Govt High School , Khara which was damaged four months back .They students were particularly up-in-arms against state government and education department for their “failure to do anything concrete in this regard despite giving assurance several times”. Protesting students demanded construction of school  building without any further delay anywhere in the vicinity of Khara , “so that student won’t face any further hardship in pursuing their studies in a proper manner”.The school has produced a battery of intellectuals among whom several are serving on higher positions in the state , but presently,   this school building is in dilapidated condition and school function under the sky, even without any basic buildings, alleged Kulsoom Bano a student of the school .Surprisingly, there is no laboratory or library in the school while the classes are mostly conducted in the open due to the fear of collapse of rooms any time. There are no washrooms/ toilets  in the school, according to locals. The class rooms  of the  witnesses water logging during the rains. NSUI leader Sanjay Thakur and Ahmer Shezad lead the protest and  said that as the school has been one of  the oldest schools in Thatri  zone and has produced several famous personalities,  it should  renovated by now.  They appealed to the Minister for Education and Director School Education Jammu to take the cognizance of  the matter and take necessary measures without further delay.Every day,we all  classmates sits on a sack and carry on our classwork. "In summers it was very hot to sit here and now it is getting difficult due to soaring mercury .We are  unable to focus on our studies," says Umar Wahid , Jaseb Ahmed , Shafqet Hussain ,Shazia Bano and  Adnan Farooq all students of GHS Khara . “Our officers, ministers and other privileged people sit in air-conditioned warm rooms while poor children like us have nothing. The officers get salaries in thousands and lakhs. They should come forward to resolve our problems,” they  said.This is a very old building and it may fall down anytime.“We are helpless,” a teacher said
